MIAMI BREAST AUGMENTATION

Breast augmentation is a surgical procedure that can be used to enhance the size and shape of a woman's breast. By inserting an implant behind each breast, surgeons are able to increase a woman's bust line by one or more bra cup sizes. The procedure can enhance the body contour of a woman who, for personal reasons, feels her breasts size are too small. It can also be used to correct a reduction in breast volume after pregnancy.

Most women having breast augmentation surgery today receive saline-filled implants-silicone rubber shells that are filled with sterile saltwater. In the unlikely event that a saline implant leaks, the saltwater is harmlessly absorbed by the body. Silicone gel or alternative filler implants may become available in the future.

While the majority of women do not experience complications, you should discuss each of them with your physician to make sure you understand the risks and consequences of breast augmentation.

For many women, the result of breast augmentation can be satisfying, even exhilarating, as they learn to appreciate their fuller appearance. As with all surgical procedures, you should discuss all potential risks and benefits with your surgeon.

MIAMI BREAST REDUCTION

Breast reduction can be performed at any age, but plastic surgeons usually recommend waiting until breast development has stopped. Without the excessive weight of large breasts, you may find that you enjoy life more. The specific method chosen for your breast reduction will be determined by your anatomy, your surgeon's preferences and your desired results. As with all surgical procedures, you should discuss all potential risks and benefits with your surgeon.

MIAMI BREAST RECONSTRUCTION

Reconstruction of a breast that has been removed due to cancer or other disease is one of the most rewarding surgical procedures available today. New medical techniques and devices have made it possible for surgeons to create a breast that can come close in form and appearance to matching a natural breast. Frequently, reconstruction is possible immediately following breast removal (mastectomy), so the patient wakes up with a breast mound already in place, having been spared the experience of seeing herself with no breast at all. Tissue may be taken from the abdomen and tunneled to the breast or surgically transplanted to form a new breast mound. Follow-up procedures may be necessary. Most breast reconstruction involves a series of procedures that occur over time. Usually, the initial reconstructive operation is the most complex. Follow-up surgery may be required to replace a tissue expander with an implant or to reconstruct the nipple and the areola. Many surgeons recommend an additional operation to enlarge, reduce, or lift the natural breast to match the reconstructed breast.

Chances are your reconstructed breast may feel firmer and look rounder or flatter than your natural breast. It may not have the same shape as your breast before mastectomy, nor will it exactly match your opposite breast. But these differences will mostly be apparent only to you. For most patients who have a mastectomy, breast reconstruction dramatically improves their appearance and quality of life following surgery.. As with all surgical procedures, you should discuss all potential risks and benefits with your surgeon.

MIAMI TUMMY TUCK

A "tummy tuck", is a surgical procedure used to remove excess skin and fat from the middle and lower abdomen and to tighten the muscles of the abdominal wall. The procedure can dramatically reduce the appearance of a protruding abdomen. But bear in mind, it does produce a permanent scar, which, depending on the extent of the original problem and the surgery required to correct it, can extend from hip to hip.

If your fat deposits are limited to the area below the navel, you may require a less complex procedure called a mini-tummy tuck, which can often be performed on an outpatient basis. You may, on the other hand, benefit more from partial or complete tummy tuck done in conjunction with liposuction to remove fat deposits from the hips, for a better body contour. Or maybe liposuction alone would create the best result.

In any case, your surgeon should work with you to recommend the procedure that is right for you and will come closest to producing the desired body contour. As with all surgical procedures, you should discuss all potential risks and benefits with your surgeon.

MIAMI LIPOSUCTION

Liposuction (and liposculpture) is the surgical vacuuming of fat from beneath the surface of the skin. It is used to reduce fullness in any area of the body. It is an excellent method of spot reduction but is not an effective method of weight loss.

The tumescent technique of liposuction involves injection beneath the skin of large volumes of salt water containing lidocaine, a local anesthetic and small amounts of adrenaline, a naturally occurring hormone which shrinks blood vessels. By injecting this solution to the fat prior to performing liposuction the plastic surgeon numbs the tissues and shrinks the blood vessels thereby eliminating pain and reducing and minimizing bleeding, bruising, and swelling.

People who have localized areas of protruding fat achieve the most dramatic results. Patients who are slightly overweight can benefit from liposuction though it is best to be at or near your normal weight.

In women, the single most frequently treated areas are the outer thighs, followed by the stomach. In men, the flank area or "love handles" are treated most frequently.

If there is excess fat in the area under the chin and the skin is taut, liposculpture can produce a more sculpted, angular, and youthful jaw line. If, however, the skin of the neck is loose, hanging, even if there is excess fat, liposculpture alone will not produce the desired result. Patients with loose skin usually require a face and neck lift in addition to or instead of liposuction. In general, most patients who benefit from liposuction and liposculpture of the neck are under 40. Most patients over 40 will require some surgical skin tightening. As with all surgical procedures, you should discuss all potential risks and benefits with your surgeon. Contact Dr. Salomon's Miami office today at 305-270-1361 or email Inquiries@DrJSalomon.com for more information on liposuction, or to schedule an appointment.

MIAMI NOSE SURGERY

Nose surgery is designed to reduce excess cartilage and bone in the nose, removing irregularities and bumps to give a straightened, smooth and, usually, smaller appearance. Adding tissue to enhance certain features of the nose can also be performed.

The current trend in nose surgery is towards individualized treatment of each segment of the nose to give a balanced and refined look without compromising function as opposed to over-reduction of tissue which can reduce the ability to breath through the nose. As with all surgical procedures, you should discuss all potential risks and benefits with your surgeon.

MIAMI EAR RECONSTRUCTION

Ear reconstruction can be as mild as correcting an abnormal folding of the ear to as severe as reconstructing the ear completely.

In the case of abnormal folding of the ear the procedure involves recreating the contour of the ear with sutures placed in the back of the ear. In severe cases where the ear is missing the ear can be reconstructed using cartilage from the ribs. As with all surgical procedures, you should discuss all potential risks and benefits with your surgeon.

MIAMI EYELID SURGERY

Eyelid surgery is designed to remove the excess fat, along with skin and muscle, from the upper and lower eyelids.

This procedure can brighten the face and restore a more youthful appearance by removing features that make you look older or more tired than you really feel.

This procedure will not eradicate the wrinkles around the eyes (crows feet) nor will it elevate droopy eyebrows. There are other procedures designed for these purposes.

When performed by a competent plastic surgeon, complications are infrequent and minor. Healing is a gradual process and your scars may remain slightly pink for six months or more after surgery. Eventually, though, they will fade to a thin, nearly invisible white line. As with all surgical procedures, you should discuss all potential risks and benefits with your surgeon.

MIAMI THERMAGE

What is the Thermage Procedure?

The Thermage procedure was developed to help the signs of aging skin. It works by tightening tissue. It is currently used for treating periorbital (around the eye) wrinkles. The Thermage procedure is also known as ThermaLift, Thermal Lifting, Therma Plasty, and Thermoplastic contouring. The Thermage technology is being studied for other aesthetic uses on the face.

How does it work?

The radiofrequency (RF) energy uniformly heats the dermis while cooling and protecting the epidermis. It is designed to cause immediate collagen contraction followed by new collagen production which occurs over a period of time. The Thermage procedure is the only non-invasive method to tighten loose skin.

What does a Thermage Procedure feel like?

Each time treatment is delivered there is an immediate cool sensation, followed by a brief hot sensation, followed by a cool sensation. An anesthetic cream applied one hour before the procedure numbs the surface of the skin to help make the treatment more comfortable. Your physician may offer additional measures to increase your comfort.
How long will the Thermage Procedure take?

Depending on the size of the area treated, the procedure itself may take anywhere from a few minutes to an hour. Your physician may require that you arrive an hour before your procedure for administration of an anesthetic cream. This patient had her forehead skin treated in about 25 minutes. Note the change in the appearance of her eyes.

When can I return to my normal activities?

You may return to your normal activities immediately, as there is usually no "downtime". Minimal redness is seen in some patients but it usually disappears shortly after treatment. Heat-related complications can occur but are uncommon. There is no special care needed after treatment. As a part of good skin care, sunscreen is recommended.

How many treatments will I need?

A single treatment has produced good results in a significant number of patients. However, your doctor will assess the number and frequency of treatments required to achieve optimal results for your skin.
When will I see results?

In most patients, results appear gradually over 2-6 months, although some patients see an earlier response.

How long will the effects of the Thermage procedure last?

Recently published studies show that improvements continue for at least six months after a single treatment session. Other studies show that thermal collagen changes can last several years, depending on the rate of the aging process.

How safe is it?

The Thermage procedure is very safe. Although it is possible that skin damage can occur, this advanced treatment has been studied carefully in hundreds of patients with minimal reports of lasting adverse effects.

How does the Thermage Procedure change your skin?

This magnified picture of skin (before image) depicts diminished collagen density and a thinning epidermis (top layer of skin) which is typical of aging skin. Four months after the Thermage Procedure there is new and denser collagen and an appreciable increase in the thickness of the epidermis (after image)

MIAMI RESTYLANE

Restylane is a safe and natural cosmetic dermal fillers that restore volume and fullness to the skin to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds.

Restylane is the first and only cosmetic dermal filler made of non-animal-based hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance that already exists in the human body and is used to provide volume and fullness to the skin. The hyaluronic acid in Restylane is a crystal-clear gel called NASHATM, or Non-Animal Stabilized Hyaluronic Acid. NASHA is biodegradable and completely biocompatible with human hyaluronic acid.

Unlike other hyaluronic acid-based products, such as those made from rooster combs, Restylane is non-animal-based. This quality virtually eliminates any risk of animal-based disease transmission or allergic reaction.

Restylane is injected directly into the skin in tiny amounts by an ultrafine needle, resulting in minimal discomfort. The procedure is simple and convenient, and results are practically instantaneous. To optimize your comfort during the short procedure, your physician may anesthetize the treatment area.

Both procedures require no pre-testing, but you should take a few precautions before being treated. Avoid using aspirin, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medication, St. John's wort, or high doses of Vitamin E supplements prior to treatment, because these may increase bruising or bleeding at the injection site. Also, if you have previously suffered from facial cold sores, there is a risk that the needle punctures could contribute to another recurrence.

Restylane lasts twice as long as collagen, so treatments are typically scheduled twice a year. Evidence shows that having a touch-up treatment before the product has fully dissipated will enhance the lasting effect.

Miami BOTOX® Cosmetic® / COLLAGEN

BOTOX® Cosmetic
The most common areas for the use of BOTOX® Cosmetic are the frown lines between the eyebrows, the horizontal forehead lines, and crow's feet. On occasion, some other areas may be treated as well. A few drops of BOTOX® Cosmetic are injected with a tiny needle into the muscle that creates a wrinkle. When BOTOX® Cosmetic is injected into a muscle, it blocks the nerve impulse from reaching that area, and as a result, the muscle weakens. As the muscle weakens, the skin overlying the muscle relaxes and the wrinkles in the skin gradually soften and often disappear.

BOTOX® Cosmetic is a purified protein toxin produced by the clostridium botulinum bacteria. Although BOTOX® Cosmetic is a toxin, there have been no serious side effects. This is because, for the treatment described, it is used in extremely small amounts and does not spread throughout the body.

The effects of BOTOX® Cosmetic usually last three to five months, at which time another injection is required. After several treatments, the effects of BOTOX® Cosmetic may begin to last longer, sometimes up to six to eight months. BOTOX® Cosmetic has been used safely and successfully in ophthalmology for over 10 years, and for wrinkle therapy for over 6 years. In the amounts used for wrinkle therapy, the only possible side effects are temporary and localized to the area of injection. As with all surgical procedures, you should discuss all potential risks and benefits with your surgeon.
