Abdominoplasty, also known as a “tummy tuck”, is meant to greatly reduce the appearance of a protruding abdomen. This cosmetic procedure achieves this goal by removing excess skin and fat from the middle and lower abdomen while tightening the muscles of the abdominal wall.

If you are considering undergoing a tummy tuck in Miami, then it is suggested that you contact Dr. Jhonny Salomon’s Miami office for a complimentary consultation. During your consultation he will discuss the abdominoplasty procedure in great detail to go over your expectations as well as all of the side effects and possible outcomes related to the abdominoplasty procedure.

Depending on the location of excess abdominal fat deposits, Dr. Solomon may recommend either a mini-tummy tuck or full tummy tuck. For fat deposits below the navel, the mini-tummy tuck may be recommended. However, it is possible that a partial or complete tummy tuck combined with liposuction may be best suited to remove additional fat deposits from your hip area in order to enhance better body contour. As no two individuals are alike, Dr. Salomon will develop the best surgical plan designed for your individual needs.

Tummy Tuck FAQs

Are there different kinds of tummy tuck surgery available to patients?

There are two types of abdominoplasty available to patients, traditional and mini tummy tuck. Depending on your needs, Dr. Salomon will chose the option best suited for you based on the amount of loose skin needing removal.

What are the best preparations leading up to a tummy tuck procedure?

As with any surgical procedure, it is recommended that you stop smoking at least two weeks prior to surgery. Most surgeons will also recommend that you cease taking certain prescription medications a day or two before your tummy tuck. It is important that you coordinate transportation to and from the procedure for the day of your surgery as well as for your initial follow-up visits.

How does a mini tummy tuck differ from the regular procedure?

The major differentiation is the amount of excess, loose skin being removed. Due to the minimal amount of removal, less work and a smaller incision is required.

How large and noticeable is the scar afterward?
Dr. Salomon works carefully to ensure that the scarring from the tummy tuck procedure is minimal. Depending on the amount of skin being removed, the scar can range from the size of c-section to the full length from between the hips. The incision is placed low enough to ensure the scarring is able to be easily concealed by normal undergarments. Although avoiding the scar is impossible, there are many post-surgery techniques and procedures available to minimize the appearance.

Are there any potential side effects or complications from the surgery?
As with any form of surgery, complications arising from a tummy tuck are possible, but very rare. Some of the common side effects are scarring and bruising. On rare occasions, patients have reported numbness and swelling of the treated area. Extreme complications are blood clots and infection.

How large and noticeable is the scar afterward?
Scars from a tummy tuck generally run the full length between a patient’s hips, but these scars are placed very low on the stomach so that they can be covered by typical undergarments. The scar will fade over time, but it’s likely that it will never entirely disappear.

Are there any potential side effects or complications from the surgery?
Complications arising from a tummy tuck procedure are very rare, but there are some risks and side effects to be aware of. Bruising and scarring may result from the procedure, and a small number of patients experience numbness, blood clots, swelling, or infection. An even smaller number experience skin loss not related to the surgery.
